Punch Needle Rug Tufting

Learn the art of punch needle and how to make your own coasters, rugs and
more in this 2-session punch needle tufting workshop.


Punch Needle is the art of threading wool through Monks Cloth to make
decorative wool pieces such as mug rug coasters, wall hangings, carpets, and
rugs. You will learn how to make a punch needle coaster/small rug from start
to finish.

During this short course you will:

  • learn how to set up your punch needle piece on various frames

  • how to use and adjust a punch needle

  • how to finish your piece off with fabric backing


You will have a rainbow of yarn available to you!

Resin Jewellery (2 weeks)

In this two-part course for beginners, learn how to work safely with epoxy resin to create your own unique resin jewellery.

Week 1: Designing and casting your resin pieces with expert tips and advice on mixing, tinting and embedding with resin. A wide selection of moulds and materials for experimenting will be provided but feel free to bring along small things you might like to try embedding in resin (photocopies of images, dried flowers etc)

Week 2:  Filing & drilling your resin pieces and learn some basic jewellery making techniques to turn them into wearable items. All jewellery findings are included (silver/bronze plated) with a variety of options including necklaces, pins, earrings and bracelet fixings.

You may want to bring an apron with you as resin can stain/damage clothing.  All other equipment and materials are included in the class price.

Screenprinting Intro, Textiles (2 weeks)

All levels welcome, this is an intro course (or a chance to play around with print), no drawing experience necessary :-) 

On this course you will have time to print up to five item, this could be any combination of t-shirts, tote-bags, t-towels or aprons. 

Week 1: understanding the print process and mastering good print technique, experimenting in a fun and simple way with layering colour

Week 2: bring in a choice of textile items to print with your own design

You will work with stock screens and cut stencils, experimenting with blending colours, creating colour separations and building layers.

Course price includes inks and fabric on week-one, you will bring your own textile items to print on week two, or we can coordinate ordering as a group.

Porcelain Jewellery (2 weeks)

Working with a fine porcelain clay, slightly translucent and beautifully tactile – perfect for jewellery.  You’ll get expert tips on how to cut, shape and create smooth pieces for pendants, charms, earrings and more. Learn how to screen print intricate designs onto clay and get creative with underglazes and glazes to achieve different effects and textures.  In the final week we’ll introduce jewellery making tools and basic techniques so you can transform your ceramic pieces into wearable art!


All materials and firing costs included.  Suitable for all levels, beginners welcome.
 

Week 1: Introduction to working with porcelain. Cutting and shaping our ceramic pieces. Adding texture to clay. Screen printing on clay.
Week 2: Smoothing & refining ceramic pieces. Design, decorating, mark making with glazes and underglazes.
Week 3: Final Jewellery making, you will be able to choose from a wide range of plated-metal jewellery findings including brooches, necklaces and earrings.
